Dinner for Eight FAQ

What is Dinner for Eight?

Dinner for Eight is a casual fellowship opportunity where you can connect with others from our church community. Groups meet monthly over three months (June, July, and August) to share meals and conversation. The setting is flexible – homes, restaurants, parks, or anywhere your group chooses. You don't need to be a gourmet chef to participate – the focus is on building new relationships and enjoying time together.

How does a Dinner for Eight Group work?

  • Sign up as either a host or participant using the form below

  • Hosts will receive information from the church office

  • Hosts coordinate the first gathering and reach out to group members

  • Your group decides when, where, and how to meet for each meal

  • Each gathering centers around conversation and fellowship – there's no formal agenda or program

What does a Group Host do?

As a host, you'll coordinate the first gathering by:

  • Selecting a date and location

  • Organizing food arrangements (usually potluck-style)

  • Contacting group members with details

  • Facilitating introductions at the first meeting

Who cooks the meals?

Meals are typically potluck-style, with hosting responsibilities shared among the group:

  • The host usually provides the main dish

  • Other participants bring sides, appetizers, or desserts

  • Many groups choose fun themes (Mexican fiesta, backyard BBQ, Italian night) to guide menu planning

  • Some groups may opt to meet at restaurants or order takeout instead

I don't have room to host a dinner or can't cook!

Not everyone needs to host at their home. Your group might:

  • Meet multiple times at willing hosts' homes

  • Gather at restaurants or cafés

  • Have picnics in parks or other public spaces

  • Order takeout to enjoy together

The most important aspect is spending time together, not where you meet or what you eat.

How are the Dinner for Eight groups formed?

Groups are formed in two ways:

  • Hosts can invite specific people to join their group

  • Individuals who sign up as participants will be connected with open groups

What about families with children?

Families with children are absolutely welcome. We encourage families with children to gather together to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable.
